Playa de las Teresitas is the most important beach in Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Canary Islands, Spain). It lies about 7 km north of the capital, in the village of San Andrés, and is popular both with the people of Santa Cruz and with a growing number of tourists.
Historically it was divided into three areas, each with its own name: Tras la Arena, Los Moros in the middle, and the area bounded by the Las Teresas ravine.
The beach was originally made up of the characteristic black sand of volcanic origin. In 1973 it was artificially transformed into the beach you see today by importing golden sand from the Sahara Desert (270,000 tonnes). A breakwater was also built to stop the waves from bothering bathers or damaging the area as a whole.
Today the beach, considered one of the most beautiful in Tenerife, stretches for about one and a half kilometres. Countless palm trees frame this splendid oceanfront setting.
It lies at the foot of the Anaga mountains, so we recommend a drive along the road that climbs the coast: along the way, several viewpoints (miradores) offer spectacular views of Playa de las Teresitas and the village of San Andrés.
This famous spot has all the tourist and hotel facilities needed to satisfy even the most demanding visitors, who, besides relaxing, can enjoy a variety of sports and other activities such as yoga classes and aerobics sessions held right on the beach.
No holiday in Tenerife is complete without a visit to this enchanting spot, where you can soak up the magic of a beach that easily rivals the coasts of the Caribbean.
