Playa El Médano

Playa El Médano is one of the most famous beaches in Tenerife. It lies in the town of El Médano, about 40 minutes’ drive from the capital, Santa Cruz. It is easy to reach, with parking on Avenida Príncipes de España or in the town’s other side streets nearby.

It is very popular all year round with both locals and large numbers of tourists, and it offers the main facilities, including sun lounger and parasol hire and disabled access. It has been awarded the Blue Flag.

Along the seafront, besides a pleasant promenade, you’ll find various businesses, including traditional Canarian restaurants where you can enjoy excellent dishes with ocean views. At weekends you can wander among the stalls of a charming craft market.

The trade winds make this beach particularly well suited to two of the main water sports: kitesurfing and windsurfing. Accredited schools on site teach both sports, and you can also hire equipment.

To the south of Playa El Médano you can reach the nature trails of Montaña Roja, which offers spectacular views over the surrounding coastline.
