Playa Las Gaviotas

Bathers on the black sand of Playa Las Gaviotas below the cliffs, with parked cars

Playa Las Gaviotas is in the village of San Andrés, part of the municipality of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. It is a small beach of black volcanic sand at the foot of a cliff, close to Playa de las Teresitas (you reach it from the road linking San Andrés with Igueste de San Andrés, after the Los Órganos viewpoint).

This stretch of coast is very peaceful, with clean water, far from the stress of the towns and set in breathtaking natural scenery. As well as tourists and locals, it is popular with naturists.

It is best to come in the morning: as the beach is surrounded by mountains, the sun disappears behind them in the early afternoon. It can be reached by a paved road, and you can leave your car in the small car park next to it.

It is suitable for the whole family, for a quiet day in a very atmospheric setting. As there is no sun lounger or parasol hire, we recommend bringing your own beach gear.

A charming path links Playa Las Gaviotas with nearby Playa Chica, where there is an apartment complex.
