The Mariposario del Drago (butterfly house) is in Icod de los Vinos, a town famous for the Drago Milenario, in Tenerife. Opened in 1997, it has more than 800 species of butterfly, with wingspans ranging from 2 to 30 cm. It recreates the life cycle of the butterfly, from egg to caterpillar and chrysalis, right up to the birth of the butterfly (it also houses a study centre devoted to butterfly life).
In the special tropical garden created for them, the butterflies fly freely and visitors can admire them up close. In this unusual park, home to butterflies from all over the world, the temperature is kept constantly between 22 and 28°C, with very high humidity (up to 80%). Photography enthusiasts can capture these beautiful specimens, some of which are extremely rare.
