Santuario del Santísimo Cristo de Tacoronte

Black-stone façade and two bell towers of the Santuario del Santísimo Cristo de Tacoronte

The Santuario del Santísimo Cristo de Tacoronte is a Catholic church with three aisles and stone arches, in the town of Tacoronte on the island of Tenerife.

The façade is built of black volcanic stone and flanked by two bell towers that rise majestically towards the sky.

Above the central doorway you can see the coat of arms of the Portuguese Pereira de Castro family, who held the patronage of the church.

Inside is the statue of the Cristo de Tacoronte, one of the most venerated in the Canary Islands.

In the chancel, the altar and the tabernacle are particularly noteworthy: both are the work of the Canarian artist Juan Domínguez and date from the second half of the 18th century.
